What to know about the materials before choosing your doors
Idoors provides a brief and simple analysis of the materials we offer on our website and their main characteristics related to the space in which they are used: the kitchen.
VENEERED DOORS
The veneer is a thin sheet of real wood (veneer) applied to the entire surface of the panel, on a chipboard support.

It is a resistant and precious material that gives the doors the natural look that only real wood can give.

The wood veneer coating gives warmth and, at the same time, modernity to your kitchen, thanks to the wide range of finishes offered (natural oak, tranché effect, real sawn, smoked oak, knotty oak, precious woods in glossy or matt finishes).

Thanks to the use of special stains, the veneer guarantees the technical performance of synthetic materials and is therefore a waterproof and doesn’t get stained or deform over time.
Strengths: VENEERED DOORS
  • Veneered doors are a valid and modern alternative to solid wood doors and is used for modern kitchens
  • It is available in different colors and finishes with intense and unique tones, from natural oaks to stained ones, from particular matt finishes to the high gloss ones and knotty oaks, which make the kitchen warm, with natural wood grains
  • It is a high quality material that gives a feeling of warmth to the touch
  • It is easy to clean, just use a soft cloth moistened with water or, if necessary, with a few drops of a neutral detergent (for further information we recommend consulting our maintenance sheet)
Weaknesses: VENEERED DOORS
  • The veneer is more expensive than other materials such as lacquer or laminate, even if the price changes depending on the kind of wood.
  • It is a material that can be subjected to slight variations in color over time if exposed to direct sunlight, especially in lighter or natural colors.
  • Even if the varnishes used give the wood a high waterproof level, we recommend to always dry the surface and remove any substances coming into contact with the surface.

LACQUERED DOORS
The lacquering of our doors is made with polyester and polyurethane stains and covers the entire surface of the MDF panel, including the edges.

The higher the gloss value, the brighter the surface is. Our doors are lacquered in polyurethane finish with 98% gloss for high gloss and 20% gloss for matt.

The thickness of the lacquer, as a result of several coats of paint, is adequate to guarantee the durability of the product and the integrity of the brilliance over the years.
Strengths: LACQUERED DOORS
  • The lacquered door is a very common, resistant and trendy material. Thanks to the variety of colors and effects, it can be evenly and uniformly adapted to any type of surface and to the various customer’s tastes.
  • It is possible to choose between our standard colors or any finishes of the RAL or NCS colorimetric scale, always choosing between high gloss and matt, which can give very different sensations to the same color. The matt lacquer has a better resistance to scratches, the high gloss one has always been synonymous of elegance
  • It is easy to be cleaned, just use a soft cloth dampened with water or, if necessary, with a few drops of a mild, delicate detergent (for further information we recommend consulting our maintenance sheet)
  • It is waterproof
Weaknesses: LACQUERED DOORS
  • It is more valuable and expensive than a laminate product but, at the same time, more delicate in terms of chemical and physical resistance (stains, heat, light). The suggestion is therefore to quickly clean any stains and avoid exposing the doors to direct sunlight to avoid any color variations
  • If the matt surface is frequently cleaned, especially with strong pressures, the typical micro-roughness of the surface will tend to smooth over and, as time goes by, shinier areas may appear on the surface. We recommend, therefore, to take great care in the use of matt surfaces in the kitchen, avoiding sponges and abrasive detergents.

The PVC completely covers the outside of the door, including the edges, the back is in white melamine. The junction line between the frontal two materials on the inside of the door is the thinnest possible, almost imperceptible.

PVC is waterproof, easy to clean, resistant to wear and scratches, and represents a cheaper alternative, but similar in appearance, to the lacquered or wood door.
Strengths: POLYMER DOORS
  • PVC gives the door a pleasant appearance, very similar to the lacquered one, but with a significantly lower cost.
  • It is possible to choose between a wide range of glossy, opaque and wood finishes and between different profiles that are suitable for different spaces, from modern to classic ones
  • It is easy to clean, just use a soft cloth moistened with water or, if necessary, with a few drops of a neutral, mild detergent and dry immediately with a dry cloth (for further information we recommend consulting our maintenance sheet)
  • It is waterproof to liquids and water based substances
  • It is resistant to bumps because the plastic material of which they are made tends not to crack
Weaknesses: POLYMER DOORS
  • The PVC foil that covers the door is not flat like the surface of a lacquered door
  • The rear side of the door is not in the same color as the lacquered one, but is in white melamine
  • It is a material with a reduced surface hardness and does not have a great resistance to heat. The polymer is not suitable for worktops, but only for the production of doors. It is also advisable to pay particular attention to the doors which are near the oven or the dishwasher and to avoid the cleaning with steam jets.

CLASSIC DOORS
Our classic solid wood doors usually have a frame and a raised panel. The solid wood, material of which they are made of, is a warm, "living" material that conveys a feeling of solidity and durability.

The available finishes are different, from traditional woods to the open-grain brushed ones that give a touch of modernity.
Strengths: CLASSIC DOORS
  • Idoors classic solid wood doors are available in different types and finishes. Depending on the wood chosen (walnut, cherry, ash, etc.) the doors have different shades, also depending on the light present in the environment
  • Natural wood is environmentally friendly: our doors are made of quality raw materials that comply with all environmental regulations and standards and have low formaldehyde content.
  • A solid wood kitchen is more durable and resistant: a classic kitchen has always been synonymous of strength and durability over time. The wooden doors can be easily repaired from small defects, signs, small cracks and protected from wear with insulating or specific wood products.
Weaknesses: CLASSIC DOORS
  • Wood is a living material: Natural wood must be treated with care; it moves and is therefore subject to variations based on light and humidity. Excess moisture can lead to slight deformations over time. We therefore recommend paying attention to the temperature and humidity in the kitchen.
  • Cost of solid wood doors: this precious and high quality material has a higher cost than the other ones, even if the price changes according to the wood chosen (the walnut, for example, is more expensive than ash).
  • Care and maintenance: solid wood kitchens require correct and constant maintenance. You have to clean the doors with a wet cloth following the grain direction and always well dry the surface (for further information please have a look at our maintenance sheet
