We have already explained
Why replace the doors of an Ikea kitchen? and we have seen two examples of renovated Ikea kitchens with Idoors doors. Now let's see how to choose and buy the Ikea compatible doors.
Our Ikea compatible doors have the same characteristics as Ikea doors, i.e. the fixed dimensions available for the Faktum and Metod models, and holes are already provided for housing the hinges, with the same characteristics (pitch, distance from the edge, number of holes, etc.) that distinguish the 2 models.
Once you have recognized the model of your kitchen, you just have to choose between the materials and the finishes proposed, and choose between the sizes available.
Being able to find your way in the IKEA Compatibility section could create some doubts. We have therefore thought of creating a short guide, hoping it will be useful.
1_ Do you recognize the model: Faktum or Metod?
Ikea proposed two kitchen models: Faktum and Metod.
The Faktum model has been discontinued since 2014, the Metod model is therefore the only model that is currently offered by Ikea.
Both models are composed of 18 mm thick panels, the difference between the two concerns the number of perforation lines:
- Faktum has 3 lines
- Metod has 4 perforation lines

Recognize Model sheet
2_ Choose between materials and finishes
The materials proposed for the doors are:
- Veneered
- Lacquered
- PVC
- Fenix
- HPL laminate
In the
Material Selection Guide tab you will find a description of the characteristics of the materials, their pros and cons.
The proposed finishes can be found within the page itself or within the
Finishes tab.
P.S. To better visualize the finishes and inform yourself about the material specifications, you can also search for the code on the site to see the generic finish page, but
the purchase must only be made within the Ikea section (Faktum or Metod) to order the door with Ikea dimensions and perforations, otherwise the door will be produced without drilling.
P.P.S. The finishes proposed by the Ikea section may not correspond to all the finishes proposed in the general section. Can't find the finish you are interested in? It's not a problem! Just write to
info@idoors.it and ask if it is possible or not to make the Ikea compatible door in the desired finish.
3_ Choose the profile of the doors
The doors, 22 mm thick, can be produced with:
- smooth profile (Slab profile): Veneered, Lacquered, PVC, Fenix, HPL laminate
- the Gola 1 (also called Jpull): Laccato
Profiles tab here.
4_ Measure the doors
Measuring the doors shouldn't be a problem. In fact in the case of:
- kitchen to be renewed: it will be sufficient to measure the doors to be replaced and look for them among those proposed on the site (the proposed dimensions may differ by 1-2 mm)
- new bodies without doors: just measure the cabinets and look for the doors and the fronts with the closest measurements: the difference of 3-4 mm is normal, as the doors must have a space to be able to open and close without getting stuck together
Attention!
In the case of
corner wall units and base units, we recommend that you rely on a carpenter or professional in the sector to take the measurements. Ikea doors measure a maximum of 20 mm thick and our doors 22 mm.
Punctures
The holes that will be made on your doors are described in the
Drilling sheet.
Idoors undertakes to update the dimensions of the doors and the corresponding holes as often as possible, but
if the desired size is not found, we kindly ask you to
contact us at info@idoors.it.
Hinges
In the
Faktum and
Metod drilling sheet, page 5, you will find the Ikea codes of the hinges that are compatible with your bodies and our doors.
This is the Utrusta model hinge, available with different degrees of opening, which can be ordered directly from Ikea in case you need to replace the old ones and buy new ones.
5_ How to replace the doors
Replacing the doors and drawer fronts is very simple, and is summarized in the
How to replace the doors tab.
